NUC clears Tsafe federal varsity of health sciences & technology for academic take-off

The National Universities Commission, NUC, has expressed confidence in the preparedness of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, FUHST, following a comprehensive resource verification exercise conducted ahead of the commencement of the institution’s academic programmes.

The verification exercise, held on June 17, assessed the university’s compliance with regulatory requirements, including the availability of qualified academic personnel, teaching facilities, laboratories, library resources, infrastructure, and other essential materials required for programme accreditation.

The NUC team, led by the Commission’s Deputy Director, Mohammed Adamu, conducted detailed inspections of facilities earmarked for the university’s proposed academic programmes.

The facilities included Medicine and Surgery, MBBS, Dentistry, BDS, Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D), Occupational Therapy, Biotechnology, Artificial Intelligence, and several other health-related disciplines.

Working in specialised teams, the officials inspected lecture theatres, laboratories, the university library, and the e-library to evaluate the institution’s level of preparedness for academic activities.

Speaking after the exercise, Prof. Muhammad Manga, who led the verification team for the MBBS and Dentistry programmes, commended the university’s investment in academic resources.

“We have carefully examined the books available in the library, the equipment procured for the programmes, as well as the ICT facilities at the e-library.

“Overall, what we have seen reflects enormous potential and a promising future for the institution,” he said.

Also speaking, Dr. Umar Farouk Abubakar, a member of the Pharmacy verification team, praised the university’s curriculum, describing it as fully aligned with the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards, CCMAS.

He noted that the learning resources were impressive and assured the institution of the continued support of the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria.

Responding on behalf of the university, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai, thanked the verification team for its professional assessment and constructive recommendations.

He assured the Commission that the university management would promptly address all identified gaps to ensure full compliance with regulatory standards.

“We appreciate your observations and recommendations. We are committed to implementing not less than 90 per cent of them within the shortest possible time to ensure full compliance with regulatory standards,” he said.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the University, established under the administration of President Bola  Tinubu, is Nigeria’s first specialised university designed to integrate health sciences with technology.

The institution is expected to drive innovation in medical education, research, and technology-driven healthcare delivery.
