Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s allegation that he financed an impeachment plot against him while they were in office, describing the claim as false, politically motivated and intended to influence the 2027 presidential race.

Responding to Obasanjo’s accusation that he gave the late Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’Abba, ₦5 million to initiate impeachment proceedings, Atiku said the allegation was fabricated to tarnish his reputation.

He challenged Obasanjo to stop recycling what he called baseless accusations and instead openly declare his support for President Bola Tinubu, whom he described as Obasanjo’s kinsman, rather than hiding behind sensational claims.

Atiku argued that reviving decades-old allegations at a critical political moment was a deliberate attempt to give Tinubu an unfair political advantage, insisting Nigerians would not be distracted by what he called a calculated narrative.

He further urged Obasanjo to publicly declare his preferred candidate for the 2027 election instead of resurrecting old controversies, while reiterating that his opposition to any third-term agenda remained the major point of disagreement between them during the Obasanjo administration.

The latest exchange underscores the enduring rivalry between the two political heavyweights as political activities ahead of 2027 continue to gather momentum.
