Odumeje knock Adeboye over Tinubu comment, says pastors must condemn bad govt

Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry founder Chukwuemeka Odumeje has criticised the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye, over his remarks that President Bola Tinubu was making efforts to tackle Nigeria’s security problems.

Speaking during a recent sermon, Odumeje said religious leaders should hold bad governments accountable and speak against poor leadership instead of seeking favour from those in power.

The Anambra-based cleric said he had no interest in engaging Adeboye over the issue, adding that pastors have a duty to tell the truth even when it attracts criticism.

Odumeje warned Nigerians against celebrating public officials for projects funded with taxpayers’ money, arguing that elected leaders are representatives of the people and must answer for how public resources are used.

He said governors, lawmakers and presidents are elected to serve citizens, not to be praised for carrying out responsibilities funded by the public.

The cleric also criticised the culture of celebrating basic infrastructure projects, saying many countries completed such developments years ago while Nigeria continues to praise leaders for using public funds to provide essential services.

Odumeje maintained that citizens should understand their rights and demand transparency from those entrusted with managing the nation’s resources.
