Police meet stakeholders in Benue to tackle insecurity

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 4 Headquarters, Makurdi, AIG Dankombo F. Morris, has convened a critical security meeting to address the worsening security situation in Benue State.
The meeting, held at the Police Officers’ Mess, Makurdi, followed a directive by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, in response to the recent upsurge in criminal activities across the state.
According to a statement issued by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ayo Oluwaseun Martins, the meeting brought together the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Cletus Nwadiogbu, senior police officers, representatives of the Benue State Government, members of the Benue State House of Assembly, traditional and religious leaders, the Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), representatives of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), the Civil Protection Guard and other critical stakeholders.
In his welcome address, AIG Morris stressed that security is a collective responsibility, urging all stakeholders to collaborate with the police and other security agencies to protect lives and property while denying criminal elements safe haven in the state.
He assured participants that the observations, recommendations and resolutions reached during the meeting would be communicated to the Inspector-General of Police to support ongoing operational and policy interventions aimed at tackling insecurity in Benue.
The meeting featured extensive deliberations during which government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders, civil society organisations and other participants highlighted the peculiar security challenges affecting their communities.
They also proposed practical measures to strengthen security, enhance intelligence sharing, deepen community participation and promote lasting peace across the state.
The stakeholders reiterated their commitment to sustained collaboration with security agencies in the collective fight against crime.
