Prosecution Presents Evidence Against Adu-Boahene in GH¢49.1 Million Trial-Deputy AG Says

Deputy Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, has outlined what he says are key pieces of evidence presented by the prosecution in the ongoing trial of former National Signals Bureau Director-General Kwabena Adu-Boahene and two others.

In a statement shared on Facebook on Saturday, July 18, 2026, Dr Srem-Sai said the prosecution is expected to close its case next week after state attorneys and investigators from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) completed presenting their evidence before the court.

“We look forward to closing our case in The Republic v Kwabena Adu-Boahene & 2 Others next week. In the case, the principal accused person is being tried for stealing GH¢49.1 million from a government bank account,” he wrote.

According to Dr Srem-Sai, the prosecution presented evidence showing that the GH¢49.1 million involved in the case belonged to the Government of Ghana and was kept in a government agency’s bank account.

He also claimed that the principal accused person opened a private company bank account on the same day the first cheque was issued, using a name similar to that of a government agency.

“Evidence that the Ghc 49.1 million is emphatically a Government of Ghana money in a government agency bank account. No dispute in court over its source. Evidence that the principal accused person created a fresh bank account (on the day of the first cheque) in the name of his private company to mimic the name of a government agency,” he stated.

The Deputy Attorney General further alleged that three cheques meant for a government agency were redirected into the private account.

He said the prosecution traced the movement of the money over six months and alleged that it was used to acquire houses in prime areas and luxury vehicles for the accused, family members and friends.

“Evidence that the principal accused person carefully diverted 3 cheques which were meant for a government agency into the private bank account. Detailed evidence of how, within 6 months, the principal accused person spent each pesewa of the money, buying houses in prime locations and luxury cars for himself, family and friends,” he added.

Dr Srem-Sai said the prosecution presented documents including purchase receipts, bank statements, ownership records and other financial documents to support its case.

He also claimed that the accused persons initially denied links to some companies, bank accounts and properties but later admitted ownership after being confronted with evidence.

The Deputy Attorney General further said the prosecution presented evidence disputing Adu-Boahene’s earlier claim that the GH¢49.1 million was used to support political campaigns in 2024.

“Evidence that the principal accused person deliberately misled the public when he said that he used the Ghc 49.1 million for fund political campaigns in 2024,” he stated.

Dr Srem-Sai added that evidence before the court showed the bank account used for the transactions was later flagged as suspicious by the bank and eventually closed.

He also alleged that equipment the accused claimed the money was used to purchase was never acquired, and that fake receipts were allegedly created to cover up the situation.

“Evidence that the principal accused person was forced to close that bank account when his own bankers flagged the bank account as “suspicious”. Evidence that the equipment which the principal accused person claimed he was going to use or used the money to buy was never bought. Evidence of forged purchase receipts for the said equipment – in an attempt to conceal the fact that the equipment was never bought,” the Deputy AG said.

Dr Srem-Sai expressed confidence that the trial would deliver justice for both the accused persons and the Republic.

“We believe that justice will be served to both the accused persons and our beloved Republic at the end of the day,” he concluded.
