Rep Selman lauds FG’s N24.7bn approval for Kabba-Ifaki-Ado Ekiti road rehabilitation

A member representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Salman Idris, who represents, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving a ₦24.7 billion contract for the rehabilitation of the Kabba-Ifaki-Ado Ekiti Road.

According to a statement issued by Hon. Salman’s media office, the approval followed a motion he sponsored on the floor of the House of Representatives on October 16, 2025, titled “Motion on the Need to Repair the Failed Portion of Kabba-Iyamoye-Omuo Ekiti Road.” The motion drew the National Assembly’s attention to the road’s strategic socio-economic significance.

After the motion was adopted, Idris paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Works to press for urgent intervention. He renewed the appeal during an oversight engagement with the minister on June 10, 2026, where he was assured the project would be attended to.

Hon. Salman described it as a demonstration of the federal government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and stimulating economic growth nationwide.

The lawmaker also praised the Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, for his responsiveness in addressing the deteriorating state of the road, which has remained largely impassable for several years despite serving as a major transportation corridor connecting Kogi to Ekiti, Ondo, Osun, and other South Western states, as well as a vital route to the Federal Capital Territory and northern Nigeria.

Once completed, the rehabilitation is expected to ease years of hardship for motorists, commuters, farmers, and traders who rely on the corridor. Officials say the project will improve the movement of goods and services, enhance road safety, boost commercial activity, and strengthen security along the route.

Salman also acknowledged the role of Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, whom he credited with sustained engagement that helped keep the project on the federal government’s agenda. He further thanked Hon. James Abiodun Faleke for his support throughout the advocacy process and commended the Kogi State Commissioner for Works, Barr. Salami Ozigi Deedat, for what he described as tireless follow-up on the matter.

In the statement, Idris reaffirmed his commitment to representing his constituency effectively, pledging to continue collaborating with the federal government and other stakeholders to attract further development to the Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu area.

The Kabba-Ifaki-Ado Ekiti Road has long been cited by residents and transporters as one of the more difficult routes in the region, with sections of the highway reportedly impassable during the rainy season. The new funding allocation is expected to mark the start of full-scale rehabilitation works on the corridor.
