Super Falcons suffer racist abuse on social media ahead of WAFCON title defence in Morocco

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have reportedly been subjected to racist abuse on social media ahead of their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Morocco.
The development reportedly followed allegations by Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo that money was taken from players’ rooms at the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca, where the team initially stayed.
Okoronkwo claimed she lost about $700, while teammates Rasheedat Ajibade, Asisat Oshoala, Halimatu Ayinde and Joy Omewa were also reportedly affected.
Following the allegations, several social media accounts believed to be operated by Moroccan users reportedly flooded Okoronkwo’s Instagram page with offensive comments, including monkey and banana emojis and other racist references targeting Black people.
Other Super Falcons players were also reportedly subjected to similar abuse across social media.
The incident comes shortly after Nigerian journalist and former Super Eagles media officer Colin Udoh disclosed that a suspect had been arrested in connection with the alleged theft and had confessed, with the players expected to receive their money back.
