Trump Blames Tuchel’s Tactics for England’s World Cup Exit

United States President Donald Trump has criticized England manager Thomas Tuchel over the Three Lions’ 2–1 World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina, arguing that the coach’s defensive tactics cost England a place in the final.

Trump said England made a mistake by dropping captain Harry Kane into a deeper defensive role after taking an early lead through Anthony Gordon. While admitting he is not a football coach, Trump suggested the tactical shift allowed Argentina to seize momentum and mount a comeback.

Following Tuchel’s decision to switch to a back five and introduce more defensive players, Argentina—led by Lionel Messi—scored twice to book a World Cup final clash with Spain. Reports also claimed some England players were unhappy with the conservative instructions after taking the lead, although Tuchel has defended his decisions as being in the team’s best interest.

Trump Comments on Balogun Red-Card Controversy

Trump also weighed in on FIFA’s decision to suspend the automatic one-match ban handed to United States striker Folarin Balogun after his red card against Bosnia and Herzegovina, allowing him to play against Belgium in the Round of 16.

Speaking humorously, Trump said he had joked about calling FIFA President Gianni Infantino regarding the decision, adding that the outcome ultimately avoided further controversy since Belgium still won the match.

The U.S. President praised Infantino and FIFA for delivering what he described as the “most successful sporting event” ever, while Infantino hailed the tournament as a historic event that united people from around the world.

England’s defeat ended their hopes of winning a first World Cup title since 1966, while Argentina advanced to face Spain in the final. England will now compete in the third-place playoff.
