Urgent recall issued for 685,000 bags of popular crisps

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has officially classified an ongoing recall thousands of bags of popular crisps as a Class I recall.
A Class I designation is for “a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death,” according to the administrator.
The recall of Zapp’s and Dirty potato crisps is linked to potential Salmonella contamination.
Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, frail individuals and those with weakened immune systems.
The symptoms of Salmonella often include fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and causing a more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.
In May, Utz Quality Foods issued a voluntary recall in the US for certain limited varieties of Zapp’s and Dirty potato crisps.
The impacted crisps’ seasoning contains a dry milk powder, sourced from California Dairies.
The dairy recently issued a recall of its milk powder due to potential Salmonella contamination.
Other recalls include that issued by chocolate-maker Ghirardelli for some of its powdered beverage mixes, including frappe and hot chocolate mixes.
Recalled items of the Zapp’s and Dirty potato crisps include:
