Young man fighting for life after serious assault in Dublin city centre

A man has been taken to hospital in critical conditions after “a serious assault” in Dublin city centre in the early hours of Sunday morning.

It happened on Hawkins Street, Dublin 2, at approximately 12.20am, and the victim a man in his 20s, was rushed to Beaumont Hospital with severe injuries and remains in a critical condition.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardai are appealing for witnesses in relation to a serious assault that occurred on Hawkins Street, Dublin 2 at approximately 12.20am on Sunday, 5 July 2026.

“A man, aged in his 20s, was brought to Beaumont Hospital to be treated for serious injuries and he remains in a critical condition. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.

“Anyone who was in the vicinity of Hawkins Street between 12am and 12.30am this morning Sunday 5th July, 2026 and who may have camera footage – including dash-cam footage – is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.”

Gardaí have launched a full investigation and are urging anyone with information to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact Pearse Street Garda Station on (01) 666 9000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station. Investigations are ongoing.
