Atiku Vows to End Nigeria Insecurity Within One Year if Elected

Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, has stated that if won in the 2027 general elections, he will put a stop to insecurity in Nigeria within one year of taking office.

Since the start of political activity ahead of the 2027 elections, the former Vise President has made news, particularly for several policy pronouncements, like as his latest commitment to reintroduce fuel subsidies, which has elicited reactions from the government and Nigerians.

Atiku emphasized a number of issues and indicated that he will take steps to eliminate insecurity within a year of becoming government.

“I will not take more than a year to finish it. We will hire more security officers and supply them with the required equipment.

We will also provide appropriate cash to assist teenagers in establishing enterprises, as many of them are involved in criminal activity owing to a lack of jobs.

We will implement these steps, and God willing, we will remove insecurity within a year.

Atiku also stated that he will work with leaders of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to resurrect the Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) and strengthen regional military cooperation to combat insecurity among member countries.

He stated that Nigeria and the Niger Republic have long-standing links and that the military dictatorship in Niger should not have an impact on bilateral relations between the countries.

“We will engage our colleagues and ECOWAS leaders because I believe that by working together, we can resuscitate ECOMOG and increase synergy among member nations’ military forces, particularly Côte d’Ivoire, Sierra Leone, and Liberia, to ensure peace.

“We shall band together, deepen collaboration, and work together to bring peace.

They now outperform us in terms of democracy.

“I see no reason why Nigeria should suspend bilateral relations with Niger Republic solely because of the military coup.

What do we do with it? Nigeria and Niger are the same.

We’re the same people. The fact that the military has taken over Niger’s government should not lead Nigeria to terminate ties with the country or endorse its removal from ECOWAS.

“I will endeavor to bring Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali back into ECOWAS so that we can form a united front.

This will also assist to minimize unemployment throughout the country.”

When asked if he believes the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) can conduct free and fair elections, Atiku expressed pessimism.

He did, however, urge the electorate to turn out in large numbers to exercise their franchise and guarantee that their votes are counted.

“INEC will not do the right thing because this government is responsible for their arrival. But what I want to tell Nigerians is that they should vote.

They should ensure that their votes are counted, that their ballots are protected, and that the person for whom they vote is ultimately declared the winner.”

Speaking further, the presidential candidate stated that the 2027 election would be his final bid for the presidency, and that he would be available to advise young politicians if the election did not go his way.

In response to his commitment to restore gasoline subsidies, Atiku stated that removing them all at once would be irresponsible, and that his administration would thoroughly examine the situation and speak with all key parties before making a decision.

“In my 79 years (and approaching 80), I have never experienced the level of misery that Nigerians are currently facing.

I don’t need to confer with anyone before agreeing to restore the subsidies. I’ve witnessed the people’s plight.

He accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of eliminating the subsidy all at once, which he claimed shocked many Nigerians and forced him out of his farming company.
