A Federal High Court in Bauchi has thrown out a N200 million fundamental rights suit brought against the Nigeria Police Force and other officials.
The case, filed by Dr Aliyu Sulaiman Wunti and challenging Alhaji Abdulaziz Tijjani and five others, was marked FHC/BAU/CS/94/2025.
A law enforcement spokesperson disclosed the judgment on Friday, noting that the Bauchi Judicial Division delivered its decision on July 24, 2026, following 11 court hearings.
The applicant had sought court declarations that his fundamental rights to fair hearing and property protection had been breached, along with permanent restraining orders against the respondents.
He pursued N200 million in damages N50 million for the alleged destruction of his property, N100 million in general damages, and N50 million to cover litigation costs.
The legal representatives defending the Nigeria Police Force and the state command presented their case throughout the proceedings.
The court determined that the applicant had not proven any violation of his fundamental rights by the respondents and accordingly dismissed the entire suit.
The court additionally imposed N1 million in costs against the applicant in favour of the respondents.
The Commissioner of Police praised the command’s legal team for their professionalism, commitment, and tenacity during the case.
The force said the outcome reinforced its dedication to maintaining the rule of law and safeguarding citizens’ rights while defending personnel who acted within proper legal boundaries.
