A multi-storey white hospital structure in Calabar experienced partial structural failure after heavy downpours and soil erosion compromised its foundation stability.

Shared video documentation depicted suspended concrete sections and exposed supporting columns, though no persons were injured in the incident.

Observers and commentators criticised the facility’s construction approach, citing concerns over inadequately shallow foundations, absent soil quality assessments and neglected erosion mitigation measures in vulnerable areas including Unicem and Diamond Hill.

The building failure reflects an ongoing pattern of land destabilisation incidents triggered by rainfall in the region.
