Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised several terrorists and recovered arms, motorcycles and rustled livestock in Maikujeru community, Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

A credible security source told the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday that the operation followed credible intelligence on the movement of suspected terrorists transporting rustled livestock through the community.

The source said the troops were swiftly deployed and intercepted the terrorists in a fierce engagement earlier on Thursday.

He said the troops also encountered an attempted ambush along the route but responded with superior firepower, neutralising several terrorists and forcing others to flee into the surrounding bush.

The source said the items recovered included AK-47 rifles; motorcycles allegedly used by the terrorists and rustled livestock.

“The general area of Rabah and Maikujeru is presently calm and stable. Troops remain firmly in position, maintaining high morale and conducting routine patrols to ensure the continued safety and security of local residents,” he said.

A local source also told NAN that the troops were making progress in the operation, using Armoured Personnel Carriers, APCs, and other resources against the armed group.

According to the source, the suspected bandits allegedly used rustled cattle as shields during the confrontation, leading to the death of several animals, while others scattered into nearby forests.

Residents of Maikujeru and surrounding communities have expressed relief over the military intervention and called for sustained security operations to prevent the armed groups from regrouping.
