2027 EDHA race: Enahonna bids to represent Igueben

The political temperature of Igueben, the administrative headquarters of Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State was on a high over the weekend as a renowned businessman and politician, Hon. Charles Ekholowa Enahonna, formally declared his intention to contest for the Edo State House of Assembly seat for the Igueben State Constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The ceremony which bore the marks of a mini carnival drew thunderous ovation at the party secretariat in Igueben where political heavyweights, party members, relatives and well-wishers converged to make the event a success.

Enahonna, a philanthropist, consummate entrepreneur, supply chain virtuoso, and an embodiment of visionary leadership, electrified the gathering with a declaration many observers have described as a paradigm shift in grassroots politics, pledging to serve only a single term of four years when elected.

With a promise to apply all inclusive governance, Enahonna declared with an air of certainty:
“I am your choice. I know what you want, and I will give you what you want”.

“I will not disturb the leaders. Just one term is enough for me to execute all I have to do. By the special grace of God, we will move,” he affirmed.

In a tone that typifies his humility and steely resolve, the urbane and sagacious aspirant assured party leaders and constituents that his ambition was devoid of personal aggrandizement, stressing that he would not seek re-election after his first tenure.

Anchoring his campaign on collaboration, inclusiveness and pragmatic governance, Enahonna, whose business empire spans hospitality, construction and manufacturing, including the internationally registered Mark Derrick Bakehouse, promised to usher in a new era of accelerated development across all ten wards of the constituency.

He specifically pledged the rehabilitation of critical road networks, including Udo and Amahor roads, while underscoring the importance of synergy between the state, local government and grassroots leadership structures.

“There will be cooperation with the centre and the local government authorities. With this collaboration, all roads will be done. We will carry everybody along because development cannot be superimposed on the people”, he noted.

Describing himself as a man of the people, the erudite former UACN Plc professional said his understanding of the socio-economic dynamics of Igueben gives him a strategic advantage to deliver impactful representation.

“I live among the people. I go round the nooks and crannies. I know what our people need,” he added.

In a swift endorsement laced with political realism, a prominent APC leader in Igueben Local Government, Hon. Ephraim Alwebusele, extolled Enahonna as an “astute and eminently qualified” aspirant whose humility and clarity of purpose distinguish him in the race.

“He is a man we know very well, forthright, disciplined and grounded. His four-year proposition is novel and worth serious consideration,” Alwebusele said, while reiterating the supremacy of the party in determining its eventual flag bearer.

He further admonished all aspirants to maintain decorum, noting that the party would ultimately present its best candidate after due consultations.

In a show of grassroots validation, the Queen of Amahor, Odion Aige, lauded Enahonna’s philanthropic footprint, particularly his establishment of a computer centre in the community, describing him as “a good and dependable man.

“Enahonna for several years singlehandedly paid JAMB enrollment fees for scores of students of Amahor Secondary School, and in some cases WAEC fees for indigent students, thus promoting the educational advancement of the community and by extension, the entire Igueben LGA”.

Political analysts view Enahonna’s entry into the race as a defining moment capable of recalibrating the power dynamics within Igueben politics, given his vast network, technocratic depth and unwavering commitment to people-oriented legislation.

Added to this they averred is the aspirant’s deft confidence and emphatic certainty by which he reeled out his programmes of action, projecting the aura of a leader deeply attuned to the yearnings of his people.

On legislative priorities, the business magnate stressed the need for responsive laws to tackle youth unemployment, girl-child education and community-specific challenges.

“There are laws that need urgent attention. It is not about money; it is about meeting the needs of the people,” he asserted.

With chants of “Oyee!” echoing amidst drumbeats from across the venue, with party faithful from Wards 1 to 10 pledging support, Enahonna’s declaration has unmistakably set the tone for what promises to be a keenly contested yet ideologically refreshing political season in Edo State.
