2027: LP ‘ll take over Benue – Rep Agbese

…as party concludes congresses, inaugurates SWC

The lawmaker representing Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, Philip Agbese, has declared that the Labour Party (LP) is poised to take over Benue State in the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence in the party’s growing strength and acceptance among the people.

Agbese made the assertion while addressing party members during the conclusion of the Labour Party congresses in the state, culminating in the inauguration of a new State Working Committee (SWC) on Saturday.

According to him, “Labour Party is not just preparing to participate in the 2027 elections, we are ready to take over governance in Benue State. The people are already aligning with our vision, and the momentum is clearly on our side.”

He noted that the successful conduct of the congresses across the state reflected internal unity and the party’s readiness to challenge for power.

The congress, conducted by affirmation, produced a 24-member State Working Committee, with Mr. William Ochonu emerging as Chairman and Mr. Spencer Atikpo as Secretary.

Inaugurating the committee, Chairman of the Labour Party Congress Sub-Committee for Benue State, Chief John Ochoga, said the process was in line with the directives of the party’s national leadership.

Ochoga commended party members for their orderly conduct and urged the newly elected officials to justify the confidence reposed in them.

“The peaceful and transparent nature of this exercise shows that Labour Party is prepared for greater responsibilities. This new leadership must work tirelessly to strengthen the party at all levels,” he said.

The Assistant National Youth Leader of the party for North Central, Dr. Graham Gande, expressed optimism that the party’s newly elected executive committee would steer it to victory in the 2027 elections.

Gande said the emergence of the new EXCO signaled the party’s growing strength in the state. “I am grateful that today the Labour Party has demonstrated that it is present and strong in Benue.

“With this EXCO, we are setting out on the path to 2027, and there is a lot of work ahead. I congratulate and welcome the EXCO and urge them to work hard to deliver the party at the polls,” he said.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected State Chairman, Mr. William Ochonu, thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him and his team, pledging commitment and diligence in discharging their responsibilities.

“On behalf of myself and members of the State Working Committee, I sincerely appreciate this honour. We willingly accept the responsibility entrusted to us and assure you that we will not disappoint.

“We will work in unity and with love for the party, and by 2027, the results will speak for themselves,” Ochonu stated.

He further assured that the new leadership would remain faithful and committed, working closely with the people to strengthen the party.

“Today marks a moment of renewed purpose, a time to reflect on our journey, assess where we stand, and, more importantly, chart a clear and courageous path forward,” he added.
