Supporters of former Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Faisal Shuiab, have called on him to remain in the Nasarawa State governorship race despite the endorsement of Senator Ahmed Wadada by Governor Abdullahi Sule ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries.

The supporters made the appeal during a rally in Lafia, where men, women, youths, and various groups emphasised the importance of democratic choice and participation.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, a youth leader, Elayo Confidence, described Shuiab as a capable leader, citing his experience and contributions to the health sector both within and outside Nigeria.

“He is a servant-leader who is experienced, grassroots-based and people-centric,” he said.

A community leader, Hajiya Amina Sani, urged voters—especially young people—to prioritise competence and credibility in leadership. She noted that her support was driven by a desire for sustainable development rather than personal gain.

“Our support is based on the hope for a better future for the next generation,” she said.

Other speakers at the event expressed confidence in Shuiab’s ability to unite stakeholders and promote inclusive governance.

In his response, Shuiab said he was encouraged by the show of support despite the heavy rain, joining supporters on a walk during the rally.

He explained that his visit to Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, was to acknowledge the support and feedback from his supporters following recent political developments. He thanked them and assured that he would communicate his decision in due course.

“This is a time to appreciate your support and assure you that your voices have been heard. We will respond accordingly,” he said.

The rally, which began at the Lafia city gate, was part of a statewide appreciation tour that drew participants from Lafia, Doma, Awe, Keana, and Obi local government areas.

The tour, which started in Toto Local Government Area, continued through the western and northern zones before concluding in Lafia, the headquarters of the southern zone.
