APP remains Imo’s biggest opposition party — lawmaker Ugochinyere

The member representing Ideato North/South Federal Constituency in the National Assembly and a chieftain of the Action People’s Party, Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu, has described the party as the biggest opposition in Imo State.

Speaking during the inauguration of newly elected ward and local government executives in his hometown, Akokwa, in Ideato North on Saturday, he said the party has continued to offer constructive criticism to the ruling party while holding it accountable to deliver the dividends of democracy.

“In Imo, no other party offers strong opposition apart from the Action People’s Party. The party has the strongest structure from ward to local government to the state. There is no family in Imo that does not have a member of the party. APP is founded on the principle of equity and fairness. We run an open-door policy that endears the electorate to the party,” he said.

He added that aside from the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state, the APP has the second-largest representation at the National Assembly.

“Of the 10 federal constituencies in Imo, APP has two representatives. It is a milestone for us, and we are going to capture more constituencies,” he said.

Ugochinyere said the party’s representation stands out in terms of projects and legislative activities.

“All our projects will take one month to commission because they are many. We are going to showcase them so that people will know they are ours. We have done a lot in water, sanitation, community outreach and empowerment,” he said.

He urged ward and local government leaders, as well as members of the grassroots development forum, to be inclusive and expand the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 elections.

He warned that underperforming leaders would be replaced.
