Ex-Kwara APC chair declares governorship bid

A former Kwara State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Bashir Bolarinwa, has said he possesses the analytical capacity and global perspective required to address the socio-economic and governance challenges facing the state.

Bolarinwa, while speaking with The PidomNigeria on Sunday, said his extensive experience in public service has equipped him with the necessary tools to drive meaningful development in Kwara.

“I submitted my letter of intent to the party on Thursday. I am not driven by personal ambition, but by a lifelong record of service that spans the grassroots, the legislature and national institutions.

“I am equipped with the analytical tools and global outlook necessary to confront the socio-economic and governance challenges facing Kwara State,” he said.

Bolarinwa explained that his academic credentials, including a PhD in International Relations and degrees from the University of Ilorin and the University of Lagos, have shaped his understanding of governance and policymaking in a complex and evolving world.

He noted that beyond academics, his experience across different levels of governance, from grassroots politics to national institutions, has prepared him for the task ahead.

According to him, his political journey began as a councillor and later as a two-term chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government, before serving as a two-term member of the House of Representatives.

He added that his leadership capacity was further demonstrated during his tenure as Kwara APC chairman in 2018, when he led the party to a sweeping victory in the 2019 general elections under the “O To Ge” political movement.

The governorship aspirant also cited his role as Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Broadcasting Commission, where he said he helped strengthen regulatory frameworks and promote professionalism in public service broadcasting.

Bolarinwa, who submitted his letter of intent to contest the gubernatorial seat on Thursday, described his ambition as a call to service rather than personal ambition.

He stressed that his goal is to consolidate the achievements of the current administration and move the state to greater heights.

“I am not a novice in governance. I understand the challenges facing our people and where urgent attention is needed,” he added.

Bolarinwa, who submitted his letter of intent to the party on Thursday, expressed confidence that the APC would retain power in the state in 2027, urging stakeholders to focus on building a state anchored on peace, equity, and inclusive development.
