Flamingos thrash Nazareth 7-0 in W’Cup qualifier prep

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, continued their impressive preparations for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers with a commanding 7–0 victory over Nazareth Queens in Abuja, extending their winning momentum in camp, PidomNigeria Sports Extra reports.

The match, which was originally scheduled for Sunday but eventually held on Monday, saw Nigeria dominate from start to finish, taking a 2–0 lead into half-time before producing a clinical second-half display to complete another emphatic win.

Wuraola Olayiwola opened the scoring in the eighth minute before Oluebube Umejiaku doubled the advantage in the 34th minute, giving the Flamingos control of the contest.

After the break, Harmony Chidi struck twice in the 48th and 54th minutes to further assert Nigeria’s dominance, before Oluwakemi Adegbuyi converted a penalty in the 59th minute to make it five.

Islamiyat Yusuf added the sixth in the 62nd minute, while Favour Enodumwenben completed the rout in the 67th minute as the Flamingos sealed a second consecutive high-scoring victory.

The result follows their earlier 6–0 win over Generation Next on Saturday, which underlines strong progress in camp as head coach Akeem Ishola Busari continues preparations for the second-round qualifier against Guinea.

The Flamingos are currently in an intensive training camp in Abuja, where Busari is assessing a 36-player squad drawn across all departments as Nigeria step up their build-up to the tournament scheduled for Morocco in 2026.

According to team media officer Dorcas Erenayo, the squad also received a motivational visit following the match from former Flamingos assistant coach and Super Falcons goalkeeper Precious Dede, alongside CAF’s head of women’s football, Goshime Meskerem.

Dede presented training equipment she personally purchased for the players and encouraged them to remain focused and disciplined in their pursuit of success.

Her message was described as a reminder for the young squad to maintain discipline and ambition as they continue their development ahead of the qualifiers.

Nigeria will face Guinea over two legs in May, with the first leg away between May 22 and 24, before the return fixture in Abuja on May 30, as the Flamingos aim to secure qualification for the global tournament.
