Free healthcare: Lagos LCDA enrols vulnerable residents

Residents of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State’s Mushin Local Government Area have gained immensely from a free healthcare initiative targeting 1,000 vulnerable community members.

Dr. ‘Seyi Jakande, Chairman of the LCDA, launched the program while reaffirming the administration’s commitment to dignity, equity, and accessible healthcare for all.

“We gather here not just to launch a program, but to reaffirm our commitment that no resident, irrespective of social or economic background, will be denied quality free healthcare,” he said.

Dr. Jakande described a healthy population as the foundation of economic growth, social cohesion, and community advancement. He positioned healthcare at the core of the LCDA’s HEWA Agenda, calling the initiative “not an act of charity, but an act of justice.”

Beneficiaries will receive free medical consultations, maternal and child healthcare, and preventive screenings. The chairman highlighted recent milestones, including a new primary healthcare center in Kayode, upgrades to facilities with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems, staff training, and a shift toward proactive care through outreach, immunizations, and health education.

In his submission, Hon. Rasaq Ajala, former Chairman of the LCDA, reaffirmed Dr. Jakande’s efforts to leave a strong footprint across all sectors of the community, spanning education, healthcare, and public services.

Ajala also highlighted the programme as a key intervention aimed at addressing the critical needs of residents, adding that “health, they say, is wealth.”

He further noted that Jakande has remained consistent with the LCDA’s developmental vision, ensuring continuity of its progressive agenda. Ajala, however, urged him to scale back excessive “stomach infrastructure” and channel more focus into sustainable development programmes.
