Groups move to combat Asthma in Abia, target schools, motor parks

The Asthma Relief Campaign Project, in partnership with the Global Allergy & Airways Patients Platform (GAAPP), has launched a coordinated effort to combat asthma in Abia State.

Under a programme tagged “Breath Well Abia,” the groups will embark on a statewide awareness campaign aimed at improving asthma care, prevention, and public education.

Team Lead, Kelechi Nwangoro, disclosed in a statement that the initiative will officially kick off at Methodist College, Uzuakoli, where students, teachers, and members of the community will receive vital health education on asthma prevention, management, and the dangers of environmental pollution.

He explained that the campaign would also extend to transport unions and motor parks across the state, targeting drivers and transport workers with information on the impact of air pollution on respiratory health and the importance of early diagnosis and proper asthma management.

As part of the intervention, the organisers will distribute free inhalers and asthma educational materials to underprivileged patients, vulnerable households, and transport workers.

Nwangoro added that the outreach will cover five local government areas to ensure wider community impact, noting that he will personally visit selected schools and transport hubs to drive the campaign.

He said the initiative reflects a strong commitment to reducing asthma-related complications and improving the quality of life of residents living with asthma in Abia State.
