Insurgency: Edo Governor Grants Full Scholarships To Children Of Late Brig. Gen. Oseni Braimah Who Was Killed By Terrorist

The three children of the late Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah, who was killed along with other soldiers by militants in Borno State and buried on Wednesday, have been awarded full educational scholarships by Edo State Governor Sen. Monday Okpebholo.

Braimah, a native of Warake in the Edo State local government of Owan East, passed away while serving the country.

The scholarship would guarantee that the children’s education would be entirely sponsored from their current levels through university, according to a statement released on Thursday by Dr. Patrick Ebojele, the governor’s chief press secretary.

He identified the recipients as Yasmeen Hussain-Braimah, 12, a JSS 2 student at Olumawu Junior Secondary School, Abuja; Amir Hussain-Braimah, 16, presently enrolled in SS 3 at Olumawu Senior School, Abuja; and Farida Hussain-Braimah, 18, a 100-level software engineering student at Nile University, Abuja.

He quoted Governor Okpebholo as describing the gesture as both a moral obligation and a demonstration of responsible governance, noting that Brigadier General Braimah’s death represented a profound sacrifice in the service of Nigeria.

The governor said, “Brigadier General Braimah paid the ultimate price in service to this country. It is only right that we stand by the family he left behind and ensure his children have uninterrupted access to education.”

The governor described the late officer as a symbol of discipline, courage, and patriotism.

According to the governor, the scholarship initiative aligns with the education pillar of his administration’s SHINE Agenda, which places emphasis on human capital development, social welfare, and inclusive governance.

He continued, “No child of an Edo hero should be excluded from achieving success.” This is about accountability, honor, and a purposeful investment in the future.” The Edo State Government further called on other state governments and private sector stakeholders to emulate the initiative by providing structured support—particularly in education—to families of military personnel who die in the line of duty.
