Ogun APC chieftain declares interest in Assembly seat

An Ogun State chieftain of the All Progressives Congress from Iwopin Ward 1 of Ogun Waterside Local Government, Sikiru Apena, has declared his intention to represent the local government at the state House of Assembly in the forthcoming 2027 elections.

Apena, a retired Assistant Controller of Customs, on Thursday unveiled his plans to represent the riverine local government in the assembly during a stakeholders’ engagement meeting held at Abigi, the headquarters of the local government.

He said his ambition for the assembly race was driven by his determination to offer more responsive representation, having taken time to understudy the developmental challenges confronting the constituency.

Apena said, “I am an accomplished Watersider, a philanthropist of note, a tested and trusted community man, a patriotic Nigerian who served his nation meritoriously and retired statutorily as an Assistant Comptroller of Customs.

“My desire and dedication to the service of my people back home, my passion for good governance and community development expertise spur me into seeking to represent our dear Ogun Waterside Local Government State Constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly.

“My wealth of experience in public service, coupled with my cognate academic and educational attainment, are therefore my strengths in this regard.

“As a son of this soil, I understand the hopes, aspirations and challenges of our people. I believe that with dedication, integrity and purpose, we can deliver the dividends of democracy to every corner of Ogun Waterside.”

The former customs officer said he would use his representation at the assembly to pursue infrastructural development, improved security architecture in the constituency, improved access to qualitative and affordable healthcare and education, creation of innovation hubs, and prioritised rural development, among others.

He added, “Our very distinguished leaders of our great party APC, I am ready to serve with distinction, to work tirelessly for the people, and to ensure Ogun Waterside thrives. I seek your support, trust and endorsement for this endeavour.
