Military donates fertiliser to farmers in Plateau

The Special Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, JTF-OPEP, has donated fertiliser to farmers in Wase, Kanam and Kanke Local Government Areas, LGAs, of Plateau.

Maj.-Gen. Folunsho Oyinlola, the Commander of JTF-OPEP and General Officer Commanding GOC, 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Rukuba, near Jos, presented the fertiliser to the beneficiaries on Friday in Wase.

Represented by Col. O.P. Osuntuyi, the Sector Commander of JTF-OPEP in Wase, Oyinlola said that the move aimed at ensuring food security in the state.

Oyinlola, who said that the gesture was devoid of religious or tribal inclination, added that the move aimed at boosting security in the localities.

He further described the move as part of its broader non-kenitic approach and practical demonstration of the military towards a peaceful society.

“This initiative is part of our broader efforts to support farmers, reduce tensions and strengthen cooperation between communities and the security forces.

“This focuses on consolidating security gains and preparing for a peaceful 2026 farming season,”he said.

Oyinlola called on residents of Plateau, particularly farmers and herders to work collectively towards promoting peace and unity in the state.

He promised to initiate programmes that would further boost peaceful coexistence and togetherness in all parts of the state.

The commander called on the residents to support the military and other security agencies in their bid towards addressing the security challenges in the state.

Speaking, the Emir of Wase, Mohamadu Haruna, lauded the military for the people-oriented initiative.

He promised to support the military and urged communities to reject violence, cooperate with security agencies and report any individuals threatening the existing fragile peace and stability.
