NAN holds 4th fitness walk, promotes wellness, team spirit

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday held its 4th Fitness Walk and Jogging Exercise in Abuja, drawing staff, partners and stakeholders in a colourful outing to promote wellness and unity.

The event was organised by NAN in collaboration with Alpha Designs Nigeria Limited, the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the FCT Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).

The Managing Director of NAN, Ali M. Ali said the initiative aimed to boost staff productivity through regular exercise and team bonding.

Ali said: “Events like this build unity and a sense of belonging among staff. 

“When we interact outside the workplace, we strengthen bonds that translate into improved productivity and shared goals.”

He added that NAN had institutionalised wellness, including a well-equipped gym and dedicated fitness hours twice weekly for staff to keep fit.

He said: “At NAN, we prioritise staff wellbeing. 

“Our gym facilities and structured wellness time reflect our belief that a healthy workforce drives efficiency and teamwork.”

The LGAN President, Lami Ahmed, commended participation, especially among women, stressing the importance of exercise.

Ahmed said: “The turnout is impressive, especially from women. 

“Regular physical activity is vital for healthy living, and sports like golf provide both exercise and recreation.”

Ahmed noted that golfers walk long distances during play, enhancing endurance and overall fitness.

“An average round of golf involves about 10 kilometres of walking, making it an excellent way to stay active while enjoying the game,” she said.

She disclosed that LGAN would host about 30 countries for the All Africa Challenge Trophy in Abuja from November 2 to 7, 2026.

“We look forward to hosting Africa in Abuja and appreciate NAN’s support in amplifying awareness before, during, and after the event,” she said.

The FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, represented by Assistant Corps Marshal Felix Theman, reaffirmed commitment to fitness and safety.

Mohammed said: “NAN has remained a strong partner to FRSC. 

“Fitness is not optional for us; it is a priority, and we are always glad to participate in initiatives like this.”

He added that the corps ensured the safety of participants and road users throughout the exercise.

“We deployed personnel to manage traffic and guarantee safety, ensuring participants could exercise in a secure environment,” he said.

The Managing Director of Alpha Designs, Quadri Fatai, represented by Ismail Oladapo, reiterated support for wellness initiatives.

“At Alpha Designs, we go beyond services to build partnerships that enhance wellbeing, efficiency, and sustainability across communities,” he said.

Fatai highlighted the company’s social platform, Genesis New Vision, as a tool for community engagement.

“Our Genesis New Vision platform integrates charity, social interaction, and environmental consciousness to drive positive social impact,” he said.

The Chairman of the Social Calendar Committee of NAN, Dorcas Jonah, appreciated sponsors and participants for their support.
