Opposition alliance is built on ‘sinking ground’ — Presidency

The Presidency has dismissed the emerging opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections, describing it as weak, uninspiring and lacking credibility.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Sunday Dare, special adviser to President Bola Tinubu on media and public communication said the alliance formed by opposition figures is “standing on a sinking ground”.

Dare criticised the coalition, arguing that it is made up largely of long-standing political actors with little record of innovation or fresh ideas.

“They are free to field five, seven presidential candidates… but they’re standing on the sinking ground,” he said.

He maintained that while democracy allows for opposition participation, the current administration remains focused on governance and delivering results.

“There is a government in place that is functional, that has measured outcomes in what it has been doing. It does not take that away,” Dare added.

The presidential aide further suggested that the opposition lacks the capacity to present a credible alternative, insisting that past performances of many involved do not inspire confidence.

The remarks come amid ongoing efforts by opposition parties to form a united front following the Ibadan declaration, which proposed a single presidential candidate to challenge the ruling party in the next general election.
