After resuming full training last week, Victor Osimhen is still in a race to be fit for Galatasaray’s derby against Fenerbahçe on Sunday, PidomNigeria Sports Extra reports.

The striker has stepped up his recovery from the arm injury that has sidelined him for about a month, with the club confirming on Monday that he completed the entire training session after missing their last game against Gençlerbirliği SK.

Reports in Turkey suggest Osimhen could also be included in the squad for Wednesday’s Turkish Cup quarter-final clash against Gençlerbirliği, although the priority remains getting him fit for Sunday’s derby.

Turkish journalist Süleyman Rodop revealed that the forward will undergo a late fitness test on Friday.

“Okan Buruk is working on two different game plans for the Victor Osimhen and Mauro Icardi duo. Whether Osimhen will be on the field in the derby will become clear after the final checks to be conducted on Friday,” he told Forza Cimbom.

Another journalist, Kaya Temel, also said the player’s chances of starting would be determined soon.

“Osimhen will conduct specific training sessions this week. He wants to play in the derby. Whether he will start will become clear within the next two days.”

Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray on a permanent €75m deal last summer, has made a strong impact, registering 12 goals and four assists in 19 league appearances, while also scoring seven goals in the Champions League.

He currently trails Mauro Icardi, who leads the club’s scoring chart with 13 goals in 27 matches.

If he returns this weekend, Osimhen will boost Galatasaray’s title push with five games left in the season.
