A distressing video of a handcuffed man getting shot by a Delta State police officer has gone viral and caused a great deal of outrage.
The video, which is less than two minutes long, shows the male suspect sitting on the ground with his wrists bound behind his back. He continuously begs for his life, telling police in Pidgin English that he was tricked by a buddy in Sapele and promises to show them where the individual is.
“I’m going to tell you everything, officers. “Na, my friend tricked me. I’ll take you there,” he pleaded. An officer in mufti is seen cocking his rifle and firing at close range despite his entreaties. As onlookers see, the suspect instantly slumps.
Later, the Nigeria Police Force’s Effurun Area Command Toyota Sienna was used to transport his body. Mene Ogidi, 28, was eventually recognized by the authorities as the victim.
Police spokesperson Bright Edafe claims that ASP Nuhu Usman, who has since been taken into custody, was responsible for the deadly sh+t. According to the police, Ogidi was previously caught trying to waybill a package that was purportedly carrying a Beretta weapon with four rounds of ammunition.
Usman’s conduct were in violation of both conventional police regulations and Force Order 237, according to Edafe. He would appear before the Force Disciplinary Committee in Abuja for potential punishment and prosecution after being moved to the state headquarters in Asaba.
Ogidi’s family received condolences from Delta State Commissioner of Police CP Yemi Oyeniyi, who also promised that justice will be served.
