The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has received a boost ahead of the 2027 elections following the defection of the 2019 governorship candidate of the Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP), Olalekan Ayorinde.

Ayorinde was formally received at an event attended by party leaders and chieftains from across the state, who described his entry as a positive addition to the party’s structure.

He was welcomed by the Oyo State APC Chairman, Chief Moses Alake; the APC Chairman of Ibadan North East Local Government, Hon. Azeez Asimolowo Elewure; the Ward 2 Chairman, Chief Morufu Ogboriefon; and other party leaders.

Speaking after joining the party, Ayorinde said his decision was guided by his commitment to public service and the development of Oyo State, noting that he had no immediate personal political ambition tied to the move.

“My decision to join the APC is driven by my commitment to support the progress of the party and contribute to the development of Ibadan and Oyo State as a whole,” he said.

He added that service to the people remains his primary motivation.

In his remarks, the APC Chairman of Ibadan North East Local Government, Hon. Azeez Elewure, described Ayorinde’s defection as a welcome development, noting that his experience and grassroots connection could strengthen the party’s structure ahead of future elections.

He said the development reflects growing support for the party within the state.

Also speaking, the Oyo State APC Chairman, Chief Moses Alake, described the defection as encouraging and indicative of increasing political engagement within the party.
