Tinubu allocates lands to ambassador-designates in Abuja

President Bola Tinubu has approved the allocation of land in Abuja to ambassadors and high commissioner-designates as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic presence.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, disclosed this on Wednesday while receiving the envoys during a courtesy visit led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dunoma Ahmed, at his residence in Abuja.

Wike said the move underscores the administration’s commitment to deepening diplomatic engagement and enhancing Nigeria’s global visibility.

He urged the envoys to support the initiative by attracting foreign investment, noting that their roles are central to advancing the country’s economic diplomacy.

“You are the mirror of this country. The way the world sees you is the way it will see Nigeria,” the minister said.

He added that the President’s international trips are aimed at boosting investor confidence, stressing that diplomats must build on such efforts.

“Mr President has travelled extensively to attract investment. It is now your responsibility to reinforce that effort by building confidence in Nigeria as a viable destination for investment,” he said.

Wike also dismissed concerns about Nigeria’s political direction, maintaining that the country remains committed to democratic principles.

“Nigeria remains a multi-party democracy. There is no plan to turn the country into a one-party state. You must communicate this clearly wherever you serve,” he added.

Highlighting ongoing development in the Federal Capital Territory, the minister said infrastructure expansion is ongoing across area councils to position Abuja as a modern global capital.

He further called on the envoys to attract investment into key sectors such as agriculture and waste management, noting the untapped potential in areas like Gwagwalada and Kwali.

“There is enormous agricultural potential in areas like Gwagwalada and Kwali, but investment is still limited. We need your support to attract investors and unlock these opportunities,” he said.
