Troops neutralise two gunmen in Plateau ambush, recover weapons

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have neutralised two armed gunmen during a successful ambush operation in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The operation was carried out on Tuesday near Doruwa Babuje in the Marit general area following credible intelligence on the movement of suspected criminals in the area.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, on Wednesday in Jos.

According to the statement, the troops launched the operation at about 7:49 p.m. after receiving intelligence that the gunmen were responsible for attacks on communities, including armed robbery and sexual assault.

“Upon sighting the criminals, troops sprang a successful ambush on the marauders. In the ensuing firefight, two armed gunmen were neutralised, while several others fled into the surrounding bushes under the cover of darkness,” the statement said.

It added that troops recovered one locally fabricated rifle, five rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, a cutlass, a jackknife and a mobile phone during a search of the area.

The statement noted that troops had remained deployed in Marit and Lajam villages to ensure the safety of residents, while efforts were ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Operation Enduring Peace reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to the nearest security formation.
