The Police Command in Benue has confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the killing of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Mr Benjamin Msughaondo.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Edet Udeme, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Makurdi.
Udeme said the tragic incident occurred around midnight at Major settlement near Buruku Local Government Secretariat on Sunday.
According to her, the deceased was allegedly accused by a group of hoodlums of stealing a motorcycle and was subsequently mobbed without any form of investigation.
She explained that preliminary findings revealed that the accusation was false, as documents relating to the motorcycle indicated that the deceased was its rightful owner.
The police spokesperson further stated that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime, while another suspect remains at large.
“He was wrongly accused of stealing a motorcycle, and without verifying the claim, he was mobbed to death,” Udeme said.
She added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend fleeing suspects, assuring that a thorough investigation would be carried out to ensure all those involved are brought to justice.
