We are already implementing Nigeria First Policy — BPP

The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) says it is already implementing a Nigeria First Policy in the country’s procurement process.
Its Director-General, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, said this in Abuja when a delegation of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) paid a courtesy visit to his office.
The delegation was led by the Managing Director of NAN, Malam Ali M. Ali.
NAN reports that the Nigeria First Policy, approved in May 2025, is a strategic economic directive aimed at prioritising locally produced goods and services in federal procurement.
According to Adedokun, the Nigeria First Policy ordered by President Bola Tinubu is driving reforms to ensure that Nigerians benefit directly from government contracts, especially at the grassroots.
He said: “Under the Nigeria First Policy, we are saying contracts must first serve Nigerians.
“That is why we are taking contract opportunities to the people.”
Adedokun commended NAN for its factual and unbiased reporting over the decades, saying it had raised the bar of credible reportage.
He said: “I haven’t seen where NAN publishes news that is not verified.
“I haven’t.
“You can verify that.
“You should keep it up.”
Adedokun welcomed NAN’s invitation to appear on its flagship NAN Forum, saying he would be the first to honour the invitation as the agency marks 50 years.
He said: “I accept this invitation to be the first Director General to accept this invitation.
“It’s a milestone, 50 years as the voice of Africa.”
Earlier, Ali said that NAN has more than 500 editorial personnel across the country and had also established partnerships with global brands such as Reuters, Xinhua, and AFP among others.
“What we do is we take local news to the state, and then from state to the national stage and international stage through our various media partners,” he said.
Ali said NAN was ready to deepen collaborations with BPP on relevant activities that would be of mutual benefit.
