The immediate past Commissioner for Works and Housing in Borno State, Mustapha Gubio, has picked up the nomination form to contest in the next governorship election in the state.

In a widely circulated photo shared by the governor’s spokesperson on Tuesday, Dauda Illiya, the aspirant, alongside the senator representing Borno North Senatorial District, Tahir Monguno, officially presented the form to the Governor of the state, Babagana Zulum, in Maiduguri.

In a brief statement on his Facebook page, Dauda wrote, “Zulum Receives Borno APC Guber Aspirant, Engr. Mustapha Gubio.”

Gubio is the first aspirant to obtain the APC gubernatorial nomination form in the state.

Until his resignation, Gubio served as Borno State Commissioner for Works and Housing, where he oversaw infrastructure projects across the state.

On March 30, PidomNigeria Online reported that Zulum, approved the dissolution of the State Executive Council, while directing all commissioners to hand over the affairs of their respective ministries to permanent secretaries.

The decision, according to a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani, is aimed at providing an enabling environment for council members who may wish to contest elective positions in the forthcoming general elections.

“The decision is to provide an enabling environment for any member of the council who may wish to contest elective positions in the forthcoming general elections,” the statement read.

“Governor Zulum has therefore directed all commissioners to hand over the affairs of their respective ministries to the Permanent Secretaries on or before Friday, April 3, 2026,” the statement said.
