No fewer than 13 people have died following a collision involving a minibus and a truck on a highway in central China.
Traffic police disclosed on Thursday that the accident occurred in the early hours of the day in Henan Province near Nanyang city, which has a population of about nine million people.
According to authorities, the minibus crashed into the truck along the G40 expressway, a major highway linking Shanghai in eastern China to Shaanxi Province in the north.
Police said 16 persons were travelling in the minibus at the time of the accident, despite the vehicle being licensed to carry only nine passengers.
Three other occupants sustained injuries in the crash and were taken for treatment.
Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Meanwhile, China’s Ministry of Public Security has reportedly dispatched a working team to investigate the incident.
