2027: Don’t rely on my name, Ladoja tells Oyo politicians

By Adeola Badru
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has declared that no politician can secure victory in the 2027 elections merely by invoking his name, stressing that antecedents, credibility and people-oriented programmes will ultimately determine who earns the support of the electorate.
The revered monarch stated that although politicians are free to associate with him and leverage his name to advance their ambitions, the people of Oyo State would make their decisions based on competence and performance rather than political affiliations.
Oba Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State and ex-senator, made the remarks while speaking with journalists at his Bodija residence in Ibadan.
Describing politicians and residents of the state as his “sons and daughters”, the monarch said there was nothing wrong with aspirants identifying with him in pursuit of elective offices.
He, however, maintained that electoral victory could not be achieved solely through name-dropping or perceived royal endorsement.
“Let them use my name to promote themselves if it is meaningful to them, but the populace will decide who rules them at the end of the day, not my name,” he said.
The Olubadan further advised political aspirants to concentrate on policies and programmes capable of improving the welfare of the people, noting that Oyo voters would place greater value on integrity, competence and effective service delivery ahead of mere associations with influential personalities.
Speaking on the recent abduction of pupils in Oriire Local Government Area, Oba Ladoja expressed confidence in the efforts being made by the government and security agencies to rescue the victims.
He explained that security operations were often conducted discreetly and that authorities might withhold sensitive details to avoid jeopardising rescue efforts.
“Government and security agencies are trying their best. It’s just that they won’t tell you what they’re doing to secure the release of those abducted for security purposes,” the monarch stated.
