Residents of Ojo Street beside Ogida Police Barracks in Benin City, Edo State, were thrown into panic on Wednesday night following the discovery of the body of a 32-year-old interior decorator, Miss Greatness Esohe Aigbe.

Our reporter gathered that the deceased had gone to decorate a venue for her friend’s father funeral ceremony when she was allegedly attacked and killed a few metres away from the venue.

It was further learnt the unfortunate incident occurred around 10:13 pm on Ojo Street, off Siluko Road, Benin City.

Operatives of the Ogida Police Station, alongside local vigilantes, had commenced investigations to unravel the circumstances surrounding her death.

The victim was reportedly found lying in a pool of blood with deep cuts on her body about 400 metres to the venue after she allegedly escorted some of her workers to a nearby bus stop.

In an exclusive chat with our reporter at the scene, the elder brother of the deceased, Mr. Unity Aigbe, said his sister had gone to assist a friend identified simply as lvon, whose late father was to be buried.

He explained that the family was later informed about 11:47 p.m that their sister Greatness Esohe had been involved in an accident.

“I came here and met my elder brother. We took her in a mini bus to UBTH where I was asked to donate blood for her, but she was later pronounced dead,” he said.

“We returned to Ivon’s house to obtain clarifications, but we were told she had gone to sleep.

“We want to know how Ivon got access to my sister’s phone, which she used to call us, and why the same phone was found scattered when we arrived. She killed my sister,” he alleged.

When our correspondent visited the venue prepared for the funeral, canopies, chairs and obituary posters were seen scattered around the compound, while residents claimed the cow purchased for the ceremony had been taken away.

Local vigilantes were deployed to the area to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
lvon and members of her family were also said to have gone to the Ogida Police Station.

Attempts to speak with some persons identified as members of Ivon’s family, seen in a meeting with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), were unsuccessful.

However, a source close to the family claimed the incident was a fatal accident.

The source added that the development had further deepened the grief of the family of the late Ajayi Ogieriakhi Enoghekhase, who died last year at the age of 73.

The spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, who confirmed the incident, said the victim was contracted to decorate the funeral venue but was later found dead near the house.

She added that one suspect had been taken into custody while investigation continued.
