Abhor violence, election shouldn’t divide us, Osun SSG urges residents

OSOGBO — The Secretary to the Osun State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, has urged residents of the state to shun violence ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

Speaking with journalists after observing the two raka’ah Eid-el-Adha prayer at the Osogbo Central Eid Ground, Igbalaye said elections should not be treated as a do-or-die affair, stressing that residents must not allow the exercise to divide the people.

While felicitating Muslim faithful on the celebration of this year’s Eid-el-Adha, he emphasised the importance of sacrifice, love, and peaceful coexistence.

He said: “Our people should not see election as a do-or-die affair. We should continue to see ourselves as brothers and sisters because after the election, we will still remain brothers and sisters.

“So, we should not do anything that will truncate the electoral process or the election itself. We should not engage in activities that could mar the peaceful coexistence and tranquillity of Osun State and Nigeria at large.”

The SSG also called for continued support for the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

“We should continue to support the Ademola Adeleke government and see ourselves as brothers, sisters, and good neighbours with a view to ensuring continuous development of the state and easing tension in the country,” he added.

Igbalaye further urged Nigerians to continue praying for the country, particularly for the resolution of insecurity challenges.

“As Nigerians, we should continue to pray for the country and remain hopeful that Nigeria will be great,” he said.
