BREAKING: Tuggar loses Bauchi APC governorship ticket

Yusuf Tuggar, a former minister of foreign affairs has lost the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket for the 2027 election in Bauchi state.

Tuggar, who resigned from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet in compliance with the directive requiring political appointees seeking elective offices to step down before March 31, was defeated in the party’s primary election concluded early Saturday.

Retired AIG John Abang, chairman of the APC governorship and house of assembly primaries committee for Bauchi state announced the results after hours of delay.

According to the committee, Mohammed Abubakar, a former governor emerged winner of the primary after polling 57,517 votes to defeat six other aspirants.

Tuggar secured 26,001 votes to finish second, while Nura Manu Soro garnered 13,638 votes.

Other aspirants included Bala Maijama’a Wunti, who polled 13,648 votes, Kabir Baba Ma’aji with 8,157 votes, Baba Abubakar Suleiman with 7,688 votes and Yakubu Abdullahi, who secured 7,181 votes.

The outcome sets up Mohammed Abubakar as the APC candidate for the 2027 governorship election in the state.

Governor Bala Mohammed had defeated Abubakar in the 2019 governorship election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
