Court remands Islamic cleric for allegedly r@ping 14-year-old girl in Ondo

Akure Magistrate’s Court has ordered the remand of an Islamic cleric, Alabi Oloye, 43, at the Olokuta Correctional Centre for the alleged def!lement of a 14-year-old (name withheld) in the state capital.

The defendant appeared before Magistrate Taiwo Lebi, facing charges related to forcefully having carnal knowledge of the victim.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Augustine Omhenimen, told the court that the defendant committed the act on May 1, 2026, at about 09:45 hrs.

The incident reportedly took place at Ogbe Secondary School, Oda Town, within the Akure Magisterial District.

The offence is said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 3(a) (b) of the Ondo State Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Laws.

The defence counsel, Samuel Jemiluyi prayed the court to admit his client bail.

The Director of Legal Services in the Ondo State Agency Against Gender-Based Violence, John Dada, asked the court to disregard the application filed by the defence counsel, Samuel Jemiluyi.

Dada informed the court that the agency had taken over the case following the initial report to ensure a thorough prosecution.

Presiding Magistrate Taiwo Lebi ordered the remand of the cleric at the Olokuta Correctional Facility.

The remand is pending the issuance of advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions(DPP).

The matter was subsequently adjourned to August 4, 2026, for mention.
