Donald Trump health fears erupt as doctor sounds alarm – 'It's concerning'
US President Donald Trump has shown “concerning” signs that he may be suffering from health complications, a doctor has claimed. There has long been speculation over the President’s physical and mental well-being, with regular clips and photos of the 79-year-old going viral online.
In a recent interview with CNN, Dr Jonathan Reiner said that Trump regularly falls asleep during the day, sometimes when people are speaking to him in the White House. It comes after Trump appeared to be sleeping during a Memorial Day event at Arlington Cemetery, as he was seen with his eyes closed for an extended period while Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth spoke.
Cameras also showed the bruises on the President’s hands, which seemed to be covered up with makeup. The incident happened one day before Trump was due for his scheduled medical examination at Walter Reed Hospital.
Commenting on the incident, Dr Reiner said this isn’t unusual for Trump. Speaking during a TV interview, he said: “The president has severe daytime somnolence.
“He falls asleep very often. He’s fallen asleep in the Oval Office on multiple occasions with people talking to him in the cabinet room, and I was concerned yesterday that he might have fallen asleep at Arlington National Cemetery during Memorial Day observances. Chronic insomnia is a severe illness.
“It can result in an increase in risk of dementia, decrease in cognitive effects in older people.”
Concerns and speculation over Trump’s health are nothing new as the President nears his 80th birthday next month. Just 40% of Americans believe Mr Trump has the mental sharpness to serve as president, according to a Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll conducted in April.
The president has been spotted with swollen ankles and bruises on his hands during a number of recent public events. Last year, he was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a common vein condition which can cause swelling in the legs and ankles.
He also blamed the bruising on his hands on his daily aspirin intake, which he has revealed to be a significantly high dose. He has denied falling asleep at Cabinet meetings and Oval Office events, saying that he closes his eyes while listening to others speaking.
