Eid-el-Kabir: FRSC warns motorists over congestion on Lagos–Ibadan, advises alternative routes

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has urged motorists plying the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway to remain patient and strictly observe traffic regulations amid rising congestion along the route.

The Lagos State Sector Commander, Kehinde Hamzat, gave the advice in a statement issued on Tuesday, noting that the directive became necessary due to increased vehicular movement and heightened commercial activities along the corridor, particularly around the Kara–OPIC axis.

According to him, traffic build-up has been most severe at the Kara–OPIC section and adjoining areas of the expressway, affecting both inbound and outbound traffic flows into Lagos State.

To ease pressure on the busy route, Hamzat advised motorists travelling through the Lagos–Sagamu–Ore–Benin corridor to explore alternative routes where necessary, including the Lekki–Epe Expressway and the Ikorodu–Sagamu Road.

He also cautioned users of the Apapa–Badagry Expressway to exercise patience, avoid dangerous overtaking and speeding, and cooperate fully with traffic and security operatives deployed along the corridor.

Hamzat disclosed that over 700 FRSC operatives have been deployed to various traffic-prone locations across Lagos State to strengthen traffic control, enforce compliance, carry out rescue operations, and sensitise road users.

He further appealed to motorists to maintain lane discipline, avoid one-way driving, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, and prioritise safety at all times.

The FRSC official also extended Eid-el-Kabir greetings to residents and travellers, while warning against reckless driving behaviours that could endanger lives, urging motorists to “drive responsibly and arrive alive.”
