FRSC advises on alternative route as traffic persists on Abuja-Kaduna Expressway

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a travel advisory for motorists using the busy Abuja-Kaduna Expressway following severe traffic congestion caused by increased vehicular movement for Eid-El-Kabir celebrations.

The corps also identified ongoing road construction and heavy rainfall as additional obstacles to the smooth flow of traffic.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Kaduna Sector Commander, Corps Commander Andrew Longkam, issued on Sunday.

According to the statement, the major traffic bottleneck is around the Nasarawa Azara axis between Katari and Jere towns, where traffic flow remains slow and difficult.

The corps attributed the worsening gridlock partly to impatience and lane indiscipline by some motorists.

It said the FRSC Kaduna Sector Command had deployed additional personnel for traffic control and management along the affected corridor, with support from the Nigerian Army and other relevant stakeholders.

“In spite of these efforts, traffic remains heavy. Motorists are advised to exercise patience, obey traffic rules, and cooperate with traffic management personnel on duty,” the statement advised.

The corps admonished motorists traveling from Kaduna to Abuja to use the alternative route through Kachia, Maraban Kubacha, Jere, Bwari, and Dutse Abuja.

It maintained that motorists traveling from Abuja to Kaduna were also advised to use the same route in reverse.

The FRSC further urged motorists to avoid dangerous overtaking and one-way driving, maintain lane discipline, and ensure their vehicles “are roadworthy” before embarking on any journey.

It also urged drivers to avoid night travel where possible, drive within stipulated speed limits, and obey all traffic regulations and instructions from traffic control officers.

The corps reassured the public of its commitment to ensuring safety, free flow of traffic, and a reduction in road crashes during the festive period and beyond.
