FRSC Cracks Down On Drunk Driving And Speed Pressure Ahead Of Festive Travel Rush

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has urged passengers to refrain from pressuring drivers into speeding, warning that such behaviour poses a serious risk to road safety and can result in fatal accidents.

The caution came on Tuesday during a sensitisation campaign held in Calabar, Cross River State, ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, during which operatives also intercepted and stopped a drunk driver from embarking on a journey.

The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Cross River State, Innocent Tommy Etuk, explained that the campaign is aimed at educating both motorists and passengers on responsible road conduct during the festive period.

He stressed that passengers who encourage reckless or fast driving are not acting in anyone’s best interest, and urged drivers to remain calm and safety-conscious regardless of pressure from those on board.

Etuk reminded travellers that the priority should always be arriving safely, not arriving quickly, noting that families look forward to celebrating together not to receiving news of a tragedy.

On the drunk driver intercepted during the exercise, Etuk said the individual failed a breathalyser test conducted at the motor park, recording an alcohol level of 0.481 milligrammes well above the legally permitted limit for motorists.
