He can’t be trusted- Bayo Onanuga reacts to Peter Obi’s promise of one-term presidency

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has dismissed former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi’s pledge to serve only one term if elected president in 2027, urging Nigerians to view the commitment with skepticism.

Reacting on Thursday, May 14, to Obi’s recent interview where he vowed not to stay “a day longer” than four years, Onanuga described the promise as unreliable, citing a alleged history of political inconsistency. 

The presidential aide further questioned the effectiveness of Obi’s eight-year tenure in Anambra, arguing that it does not guarantee a successful single-term presidency.

He said;

“If you believe Peter Obi’s promise to serve only one term as president, you’ll believe anything.

 

Consider his record: while in APGA, he famously placed himself under a self-curse, vowing never to leave the party that made him governor. He gave his word to the Ikemba, even on his deathbed, swearing loyalty and fidelity to APGA.

Yet, Peter Obi’s pledges have always been short-lived. He ultimately abandoned APGA for the PDP, and since then, he has moved across different political platforms.
