Iran accuses US of violating ceasefire in Hormozgan
Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday accused the United States of breaching a fragile ceasefire agreement in the southern coastal province of Hormozgan within the last 48 hours, although it did not provide details of the alleged incident.
The accusation followed claims by the United States Central Command that American forces on Monday targeted missile positions and boats in southern Iran that were allegedly attempting to deploy mines in the Gulf.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards also claimed they fired at US aircraft they said were attempting to enter Iranian airspace.
In a statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry alleged that “the US terrorist army,” despite the ceasefire arrangement, had continued what it described as “illegal and unjustified actions” in the region.
“The US terrorist army, continuing its illegal and unjustified actions since the ceasefire, has during the past 48 hours committed a blatant violation of the ceasefire in the Hormozgan region,” the ministry stated.
Tehran further warned that it would respond to any hostile action against the country.
“The Islamic Republic will not leave any act of aggression unanswered and will not hesitate to defend the Iranian nation,” the statement added.
The development comes as a high-level Iranian delegation is currently in Qatar for talks as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict with the United States, which erupted on February 28.
