Kefas reinstates 3,187 dismissed workers, approves recruitment of 1,500 civil servants

…Says exercise to address workforce gaps, federal character imbalance

JALINGO — Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has approved the reinstatement of 3,187 civil servants earlier dismissed after being labelled ghost workers.

The governor also approved the recruitment of an additional 1,500 civil servants into the state workforce.

Commissioner for Information, Zainab Usman Jalingo, disclosed this on Thursday while briefing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting.

She said the affected workers would be issued fresh appointment letters and fully reintegrated into the state civil service under regularised employment terms.

Also speaking, the state Head of Service, Dr. Hamidu Kara, described the reinstatement as a Sallah gift from the governor to workers affected by the state’s verification exercise.

Kara said the decision reflected the governor’s commitment to fairness and workers’ welfare.

On the fresh recruitment exercise, he disclosed that advertisements would soon be placed in national newspapers to invite applications from qualified indigenes of the state.

According to him, the recruitment is aimed at correcting federal character imbalance across the 16 local government areas of the state and addressing gaps created by previous employment exercises.

He added that the exercise would strengthen manpower capacity within the state civil service.
