Navy urges students to shun drugs

The Nigerian Navy has pledged its commitment to providing educational and health support for students in Cross River as part of its obligation to national development and human capacity building.

Capt. David Odu, Command Education Officer, Eastern Naval Command, made this commitment during an educational and medical outreach in Calabar on Tuesday as part of its 70th anniversary celebration.

“This initiative aligns with the strategic vision of the Chief of the Naval Staff to strengthen civil-military relations and enhance the Nigerian Navy’s contribution to national socio-economic development”, he added.

 According to him, since its establishment in 1956, the Nigerian Navy has remained steadfast in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities of defending the territorial integrity and maritime interests of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

On his part, Rear Admiral Chidozie Okehie, Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) of the ENC, asserted that education remains the most important weapon needed to change the world.

Represented by Surgeon Cdr. Ahmadu Mohammed, Commander, Nigeria Navy Reference Hospital, Calabar, the FOC pointed out that because of its importance, education and medical outreach were deliberately inculcated into the anniversary programme.

He further admonished the students against social vices, especially illicit drugs.

“Without a healthy body, you cannot learn better or be a better person. To our parents and guardians of our children, we appreciate your tireless efforts in nurturing these young minds.

“Your sacrifices and dedication will ‘continue to shape the moral and intellectual fabric of our society”, he said.
