Nigerian artiste 9ikky releases debut EP

Fast-rising Nigerian musician, Ogbonnaya Nkemdirim, known professionally as 9ikky, has released his debut six-track extended play (EP).

The project was released on May 13, 2026, and marks a major step in his music career which began several years ago.

9ikky said the EP draws from personal experiences as well as stories from people around him, with themes centred on everyday struggles and emotions.

According to him, his interest in music began in 2012 after he heard a friend recite lyrics by Nigerian rapper Nigga Raw, an experience that motivated him to start writing his own lyrics.

Born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and originally from Arochukwu in Abia State, the artiste was raised in Bonny Island. He is the first of five children in his family.

He later studied Geology at the University of Calabar between 2014 and 2018, where he remained active in music while on campus.

During his university years, he performed as a rapper, participated in talent shows, and won several rap battles, gradually building recognition within the campus entertainment scene.

9ikky describes his style as emotionally driven and focused on real-life experiences, saying his goal is to connect with listeners through relatable storytelling.

He is currently promoting the EP as he seeks to establish his presence in Nigeria’s music industry.
